The Redcoats v the Jacobites

Colloden wasn't on our list of things to do, but we were so close we drove in just to have a look. There's an impressive information centre there but with an entry fee of ten pounds each as well as a 'pay and display' car park we decided not to go in.

We were about to leave and then noticed that it is run by the National Trust, and as members of the Victorian NT we have reciprocal rights - so we got in for free! The guide was excellent, the displays of information and bits and pieces they've found on the battlefield very well displayed and the film of a reenactment of the battle scary because you stand in a small room and it's played on the four walls around you - you're in the middle of the battle! The field itself is a bog really and in April would have been wet and cold. One wall of the centre has an outstanding brick for each life lost that day.
