Queenstown

Queenstown. The view from the street in front of our hotel.
Sigrid flew in from Sydney on Qantas and I flew from Melbourne on Air New Zealand. We landed at Queenstown at about the same time and both had the experience of our captain announcing that due to turbulence we may have to fly on to Christchurch. Both of us were wondering how we'd ever find each other if that was to happen. However all was well and we landed safely.

We had time to wander down to the town through the beautiful Botanic Gardens. The first bird we saw was a Sparrow and the second was a blackbird. And we saw a lovely Chaffinch as well. Hopefully we'll see some NZ birds tomorrow.

Lake Wakatipu, Queenstown

There were a lot of people/tourists out and about along the foreshore of the lake even though it is quite cool. And who can blame us. The mountains are so beautiful and on a day like today, with clouds and showers alternating with bouts of sunshine, they never looked the same from one minute to the next.
