Squamish, BC

Rocky Mountains, probably in the USA - view from the plane as we approached Vancouver.
We landed at Vancouver, picked up a car and headed north on Highway 99 to Squamish. I'm sure Vancouver is a lovely city but the mountains are what we've come to see.

Approach to Squamish. A windscreen view of glacier-topped Mt Garibaldi.
Fishing for trout, Murrin Park
Shannon Waterfall, 335 metres high.
Bear in area

Howe Sound, a fjord, at Squamish

Mt Garibaldi, view from the spit.
The Spit is a great spot to see Bald Eagles because of the salmon moving upriver from the sound at certain times of the year.

Sea to Sky Gondola, Squamish

Mt Garibaldi from the lookout at Sea to Sky
Suspension bridge, and yes, we walked across but I couldn't look at the view.
It's terrifying for someone with vertigo and the only reason I could do it was the floor of the bridge is solid.
Stawamus Chief, a massive granite monolith, carved and polished by ice, 700 metres high and very popular with rock climbers.
We sat for an hour and with binoculars watched two climbers on the near-vertical Grand Wall. [There are toe-curling head-cam videos on You Tube if you're interested.] It takes four or five hours to do this particular challenge but there are dozens of other climbs and boulders as well.
Rocks with glacier scrapes.

Autumn

The weather is stunning, calm and warm, the blue sky without a cloud. And it looks like staying that way for a week. Great for tourists but the warmth is probably five degrees above average and it should be raining half the month at this time of the year. The local boast is that "You will never be too cold or too hot in Squamish". We thoroughly enjoyed our day in the area.
