Luxembourg

From Germany we crossed the Sûre River into Luxembourg. It's a beautiful country with hills and limestone cliffs, a lot of forest with many trees changing into their autumn colours, winding roads and tiny villages. Unfortunately we didn't have time to explore it but if we ever go back I'd base myself somewhere near Vianden for a week (or two). Judging by the car parks I'm guessing the countryside gets pretty crowded in summer.

We visited the Beaufort Castle, now in ruins, climbing up a very narrow winding staircase right to the top of the tower and down to the dungeons as well. The pamphlet was very informative and we felt safe because of guard rails and hand rails.

Guards must have been shorter in earlier times.
