Mariposa and the Merced River valley

On our second visit to Yosemite National Park we took a different road. First of all it was a coffee stop at Mariposa, a delightful oldy-worldly town. And our chosen coffee shop was a delight too - the 'Yosemi-tea' sold real tea (tea leaves in a pot) and latte made with real milk. And their salads were delicious. Anyway, I digress.

Mariposa. So patriotic and proud of their village, and their bears.

We entered Yosemite via El Portal Road for variety and I'm glad we made that choice. It was such a contrast to the southern entrance - dry and rocky with few trees. It was 107 degrees hot on our way through the valley. No way could giant Sequoias grow there like they do at the southern entrance.
