I am currently reading "Route 66 Lost & Found: Mother Road Ruins and Relics" and I hope your best-laid plans include staying at the Wigwam Village in Holbrook, Arizona. Listed on the National Register of Historic Places, the Wigwam Motel is iconic 1950s American kitsch...would be like going to Queensland in the old days and not seeing the Big Pineapple.
